Eco-friendly Shapes and Designs from SOLID Surfboards, San Diego, CA

Dan O'Hara is a surfboard shaper who has been shaping boards since he was 18 years old, growing up in the earth-friendly surf culture of San Diego, California.  He now shapes for a living using the most environmentally friendly materials available with SOLID Surfboards, www.SolidSurfCo.com

The Throwback - This board is our modern interpretation of the retro twin fin. The board is modernized with a more curved tail outline allowing for more high performance surfing, 360's, floaters, etc.... We suggest riding the board with the MR series twin fins with the trailer in bigger surf and without in smaller surf. Great board for beginners to advanced surfers looking to add a fun board to their quiver without sacrificing performance.

In partnership with RE-Rip.org, who helps Dan re-use recycled polyurethane blank scraps, SOLID Surfboards are made from and with non-virgin and bio plastics, low VOC Epoxy, and hand foiled fins and fiberglass made from bamboo.  SOLID Surfboards are so "Green," that their construction was voted the Top ECO-friendly Board from the 2009 Rob Machado/ Green EXPO in Cardiff By the Sea, CA.

The Butter Knife - Mini-Simmons / Retro Shortboard mashup, single through double through vee bottom for speed and a free'd up tail. Concave deck to gain leverage over a wider board and much wider tail. Mission style tail to corner up for turns and float through flat sections. Badass board for really ripping through small surf.

Growing up in a place like San Diego has given Dan a variety of surf spots to shape for.  Our reefs and beach breaks can all demand something different in a board, and so SOLID Surfboards offers many classic, modern, and redesigned shapes to accommodate.

The Boomstick - This is a their semi-gun. If your going on a trip and you need a go to board for when it gets pumping this is the board. Bring your everyday shortboard, and this. The board will hold in any condition from over head to triple over head. Works in a steeper wave as well as a slopeing wave, just needs juice. All in all this board is made for big waves so order it for your next trip or keep it in your quiver for those swells you just want to ride a bigger board.

We get surf around here, but often it's not enough, so having a board with something extra always helps.  Come explore some of his sculptured ideas that make SOLID Surfboards different from the rest.
